Shiny Guard

Wild shinies lock to the nearest finder until the lock ends or you unlock them.

What it is

When a wild shiny appears, it locks to the nearest player within 128 blocks. Others cannot battle, catch, or hurt that shiny until the lock ends. You get a private alert, and the shiny glows while locked.

Locking is automatic for the finder. There is no separate “share with friends” preference for other players.

Normal flow

  1. A shiny spawns near you.
  2. You get a private message and the Pokémon glows with your lock.
  3. Catch it yourself, or run /shinyguard unlock to open it for everyone early.
  4. If you do nothing, the lock expires after 30 minutes and a public announcement fires.

If nobody is nearby when it spawns, the shiny announces globally right away. Respawn cooldown after a missed shiny is 10 minutes.

Tips

  • Unlock before you walk away if you want the public shiny callout sooner.
  • During Community Day, tagged event spawns skip shiny guard. See Community Day.
